Fundamental African Dance Patterns

with Deb Voisin
$30

Deb will teach natural dance/movement forms from West Africa that movers of all levels can enjoy and understand.

No previous dance experience of any kind required!

We will be doing simple (but not necessarily easy!) steps...no fancy choreography...just like ancestors all around the world have done through most of human history...together!

"If you can walk, you can dance," as the old Zimbabwean proverb goes!

We will work within our unique healthy limits while also gaining a new level of appreciation for the beauty that many master artists and their West African traditions fully embody. We will take plenty of time to prepare our bodies for organically aligned movement.

Barefoot recommended but not required. Wear loose fitting clothing that allows for large movement. Jumping with soft landings might happen but will not be required.

Deb Voisin

Deb has studied and taught a variety of forms of West African Dance for almost 30 years! She has travelled to West Africa three times for intense study. She LOVES teaching beginners and helping more experienced movers refine the foundational patterns in ways that reduce injury risk. She has also studied ancestral and innate movement patterns from her training in The Gokhale Method of Pain-free Posture, Jean Couch's Balance, Rodney Yee's Yoga Teacher Training, Functional Patterns, Postural Restoration Institute, GOATA Movement Systems, The Axis Syllabus, The Weck Method of Rotational Strength, and Primal Movement.
